Optic Polishing

Optics polishing is a special form of polishing.

The work pieces are usually polished on pitch. A polishing liquid, for example cerium oxide is used. This liquid flows in large quantities on the pitch wheel and gets used several times. The material removal is very low and the processing time is usually several hours. To minimize this time, the parts are polished on a conventional machine prior to optical polishing.

The required flatness results and requirements in optical polishing are in the nanoscale.
